TOWN OF TRENTON — Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann formally announced his run for governor in the 2026 fall general election during his first campaign rally at Elderberry Manor, on Sunday.
“Today, I offer you a better path,” said Schoemann. “I’m here to give you an opportunity to return the focus to the people and the power to the people.”
Schoemann filed his candidate papers to run for governor as a Republican last week on Wednesday, the first to do so for a major political party in the race and the second candidate to do so, overall. Gov. Tony Evers, as well as any Democratic candidates, have not yet filed candidate papers for the 2026 gubernatorial race.
